When is the ideal age for a newborn photo shoot? | Suffolk newborn photography

Writer's picture: GraceGrace

It's a popular idea that newborn photography sessions must take place within the first two weeks' of birth - and when I first started my business, I imagined that any shoot where baby was even a day or two over 14 days old would result in an absolute disaster of a session but, let me tell you, this is not the case at all!

While I do advise that if you really want curled up, fast asleep baby photos, it does make sense to try to book in a date within the first three weeks of your due date, however, I have had lots of success with 5, 6, 7 and yes, even 8 week old babies who slept just as soundly and were as easy to pose as they would have been a few weeks earlier.

This little one was already 8 weeks and his session was a dream!

So, when should a newborn session take place? Whenever you're ready! If it just feels too much to add into those hectic first weeks, you don't mind a mix of sleepy and awake photos (I know some parents prefer this to all sleeping photos!) or maybe your preference is to document your little one once they're a little chubbier and their features are changing - then by all means get booked in when it feels right for you.
